Biff Loman represents multiple dimensions of foil character. Firstly, Biff contrasts most effectively with his brother Hap. Hap is studious, obedient and hardworking, whereas Biff is careless and irresponsible. Furthermore, Biff contrasts against his own aspirations. Though he seeks social and financial success, his actions, such as the affair with Miss Francis, show that he never actually works towards these goals. Ultimately, Biff is a foil character because he highlights certain aspects of Willy's character and serves as a warning of what can happen to someone who allows their insecurities and delusions to overcome them.
