What is a dimmer pack?

A dimmer pack is an electrical device used to control the intensity of lighting in a stage or theatrical setting. It is a multi-channel power distribution unit that allows for the smooth dimming and brightening of multiple lighting fixtures simultaneously. Dimmer packs are typically installed in a centralized location, such as a control booth or backstage, and are connected to the lighting fixtures via DMX cables or other control protocols.

Each channel of a dimmer pack controls the power supply to a corresponding lighting fixture or group of fixtures. By varying the voltage sent to the fixtures, the dimmer pack can adjust the brightness of the lights. This allows for the creation of dynamic lighting effects, such as fades, chases, and crossfades.

Dimmer packs come in various sizes and capacities, with different numbers of channels and power handling capabilities. They may also include additional features such as pre-programmed lighting cues, DMX compatibility, and remote control options.

The use of dimmer packs is essential in stage lighting to achieve precise control over the intensity of lighting and to create various lighting effects. They are widely used in theaters, concert venues, television studios, and other entertainment venues.
