How to Insert a Coin in Through the Glass With a Magic Trick

Only a magician could turn a coin and an empty glass into entertainment. Give the magician a single, ordinary coin and a standard drinking glass. The magician makes some swift hand movements and taps the bottom of the glass. The coin seemingly pops through the glass. The illusion seems to defy physics, much to the entertainment of onlookers. Whether used to win a bet or to impress friends, the coin-through-the-glass illusion adds a great trick to anyone's repertoire.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the drinking glass on the table.

    • 2

Pick up the coin with your dominant hand.

    • 3

Hold the coin between the pads of your index finger, middle finger and thumb.

    • 4

Grasp at the coin with the empty hand.

    • 5

Release the coin into the palm of the dominant hand just as the empty hand closes. This gives the illusion of picking up the coin with the empty hand.

    • 6

Turn the dominant hand palm down on the table to conceal the coin.

    • 7

Move the clutched empty hand toward the glass to provide a distraction.

    • 8

Hide the coin between the index finger and middle finger of the dominant hand. Use the thumb to manipulate the coin if needed.

    • 9

Grasp the drinking glass at the top with the dominant hand. Position the coin so it can fall into the glass, but do not drop it.

    • 10

Lift the glass off the table with the dominant hand.

    • 11

Release the coin while smacking the bottom of the glass with the empty hand. The release and the smack must be simultaneous. The coin appears to shoot through the bottom of the glass.
