On Pokemon pearl what does the reaper cloth do?

In Pokémon Pearl, the Reaper Cloth is a held item that is used to evolve Dusclops into Dusknoir. To evolve Dusclops into Dusknoir, you must trade Dusclops while it is holding the Reaper Cloth.
