Here's how it works:
1. Choose your Pokemon: When you first select a Pokemon fighter, you'll have the option to choose a second Pokemon. This is your "partner" that you can switch to during battle.
2. Press "L" or "R": During a fight, press either the "L" or "R" button to switch to your chosen partner.
3. Switch back: You can switch back to your original Pokemon at any time by pressing "L" or "R" again.
Important Notes:
* Cooldown: There's a brief cooldown period after switching, where you can't switch back immediately.
* Switching affects your moveset: Your character will change entirely, including their attacks, specials, and abilities.
* Pokemon Trainer: The Pokemon Trainer character (from the original games) has a unique system where you cycle through three Pokemon automatically. This character does not have the option to choose their second Pokemon like other characters do.
Switching Pokemon is a powerful strategy that can be used to:
* Counter different opponents: You can choose Pokemon with specific strengths to counter an opponent's moves.
* Use different abilities: You can switch to a Pokemon with a specific ability that you need at the moment.
* Catch your opponent off guard: Surprise your opponent by switching to a different Pokemon they aren't expecting.
