The Viridian City Gym, led by the intimidating Brock, specializes in Rock-type Pokemon. This means you'll need to bring Pokemon that are strong against Rock, such as Water, Grass, Fighting, Steel, or Ground types.
Recommended Team:
* Water-type: Squirtle (if you chose it as your starter) or a caught Psyduck, Poliwag, or even a later-game Tentacool.
* Grass-type: Bulbasaur (if you chose it as your starter) or a caught Oddish, Bellsprout, or Seedot.
* Fighting-type: Mankey, Hitmonlee, or Hitmonchan, if you're lucky enough to encounter them.
* Steel-type: If you have the chance, catching a Magnemite or Magneton can give you a big advantage.
Battle Strategy:
1. Prepare for the First Battle: Brock will start with a Geodude. Use your strongest Water, Grass, Fighting, or Ground-type Pokemon to take it down quickly.
2. The Second Challenge: Next, you'll face Brock's Onix. This is where your strong Water or Grass Pokemon will shine.
3. Final Showdown: Brock's final Pokemon is usually a Onix. Just like the last battle, use your strongest Water or Grass Pokemon.
Tips:
* Level Up: Make sure your Pokemon are adequately leveled (around level 16-18) to stand a good chance against Brock's team.
* Utilize Moves: Use your Water, Grass, Fighting, or Ground-type moves effectively. For example, "Bubble" and "Hydro Pump" are great Water-type moves.
* Watch Out for Rock Tomb: Onix's Rock Tomb move can severely damage your Pokemon. Try to avoid it or use a Pokemon with a high Defense stat.
* Healing Items: Don't forget to bring Potions and Revives to heal your Pokemon during the battle.
Reward:
After defeating Brock, you'll receive the Boulder Badge. This badge will allow your Pokemon to learn new moves and allow you to use HM04 (Strength) to move boulders. You'll also receive TM11 (Sunny Day), which will help you in certain battles.
