What does the joy seed on Pokemon mystery dungeon red rescue team do?

Joy Seed will increase joy points with another Pokemon. Joy Points can be increased, and by doing so friendship can be increased. They can also be decreased if your Pokemon is hit with a strong move or if you use mean-spirited moves.
