The film begins with Katniss and Peeta returning to their home district of District 12 after winning the 74th Hunger Games. However, their victory has come at a price. The Capitol is not happy that Katniss and Peeta defied the rules of the Games, and President Snow (Donald Sutherland) makes it clear that he wants them dead.
Katniss and Peeta are forced to participate in the 75th Hunger Games, a special edition of the Games that will be even more dangerous than before. The tributes from each district are chosen by a lottery, and Katniss is shocked when her little sister, Primrose (Willow Shields), is selected. Katniss volunteers to take Primrose's place, and she and Peeta are once again thrust into the arena.
The 75th Hunger Games are a brutal affair, and Katniss and Peeta must use all of their strength and cunning to survive. They form alliances with other tributes, including Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin), Beetee Latier (Jeffrey Wright), and Johanna Mason (Jena Malone). Together, they must face the dangers of the arena and the Capitol's attempts to destroy them.
The 75th Hunger Games end in a shocking twist that will change the course of Katniss's story forever. The film also sets the stage for the final installment of the series, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1.
