Was Alvin and the chipmunks made by Disney?

Alvin and the Chipmunks was not created by Disney. The characters were created by Ross Bagdasarian Sr., who recorded a novelty song called "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)" in 1958. The song was a hit and Bagdasarian went on to create a whole series of children's albums featuring Alvin, Simon, and Theodore. The first Alvin and the Chipmunks television series aired in 1961, and the characters have since appeared in several movies, TV shows, and other media.
