What does the term Godsmack mean?

Godsmack is an American rock band based in Boston, Massachusetts. The band was formed in 1995 by singer Sully Erna. The term "Godsmack" is said to originate from an incident involving bassist Robbie Merrill when the group were rehearsing at a warehouse located under an expressway overpass. Some say he accidentally struck someone who walked into the studio. The term can have a number of literal and figurative interpretations, such as 'the wrath of God'.
