Can you track who used the gift card?

It depends on the type of gift card. Some gift cards, particularly those issued by credit card companies or major retailers, may allow the issuer to track certain transaction information, such as the date and time of use, the amount of the purchase, and the location where the card was used. However, this tracking is done for internal purposes such as fraud detection and analytics, and the issuer is not obligated to provide this information to the gift card recipient.

For gift cards issued by smaller merchants or specialty stores, the level of tracking may be limited or non-existent. In such cases, the merchant may not have the capability or the resources to track individual gift card transactions.

Keep in mind that, even if a gift card issuer does track transaction data, it is unlikely that they will share it with the gift card recipient or the original purchaser without a compelling reason or a legal requirement. Additionally, privacy laws and regulations in certain jurisdictions may further restrict the sharing of personal and transaction data.
