What cards were in the first set of Pokemon cards?

The first set of Pokemon cards, released in Japan in October 1996, was called "Pokemon Card Game" (known in English as "Base Set"). It included 102 cards divided into three categories:

* Basic Pokémon: 63 cards featuring basic Pokémon like Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, and others.

* Trainer Cards: 38 cards offering various support actions like healing, drawing cards, or hindering opponents.

* Energy Cards: 11 cards representing different types of energy used to power Pokémon attacks.

Here are some of the most notable cards from the Base Set:

* Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise: These three evolved Pokémon were highly sought after for their power and popularity.

* Pikachu: The mascot of the franchise, Pikachu's card was instantly popular.

* Rare Holo cards: Certain cards featured a special holographic foil finish, making them more valuable and collectible.

* Trainer cards: Popular cards like Professor Oak, Potion, and Poke Ball were essential for building a competitive deck.

The Base Set established the foundation for the Pokemon Trading Card Game and is still considered a classic among collectors.
