1. Obtain the PokéRadar
* You receive the PokéRadar from Professor Rowan after you complete the National Pokédex.
2. Understanding the Basics
* Chain Reactions: The PokéRadar works by creating "chains" of encounters with specific Pokémon. The longer your chain, the higher the chance of encountering rare Pokémon.
* Shiny Chance: The PokéRadar significantly increases your chance of finding shiny Pokémon, especially with long chains.
* Grass Patches: The PokéRadar only works in grassy areas, indicated by patches of swaying grass.
3. Finding Your First Pokémon
* Enter a Grassy Patch: Walk into a grassy area and activate the PokéRadar.
* Find a Vibrating Patch: The PokéRadar will start beeping. The sound intensifies when you get closer to a patch of grass with Pokémon.
* Encounter a Pokémon: When the beeping is very loud, enter the patch of grass. You'll encounter a Pokémon.
4. Building a Chain
* Run Away: After encountering a Pokémon, immediately run away without battling it.
* Continue Searching: The PokéRadar will still be active. Keep searching the area for another vibrating patch.
* Encounter Another Pokémon: If you find another vibrating patch, encounter the Pokémon and run away. This will continue your chain.
5. Chain Length & Shiny Chance
* Increasing Chains: Your chain length will increase with each encounter, so long as you keep running away.
* Chain Reset: Your chain will break if you encounter a different Pokémon species, you enter a different area, or you battle the Pokémon.
* Shiny Odds: The longer your chain, the better your chances of finding a shiny Pokémon. The general rule of thumb is that the chance of encountering a shiny increases by about 2% for every 40 chains.
6. Tips for Using the PokéRadar
* Use the "Shake" Technique: Look for grass patches that are shaking slightly. This can indicate a hidden Pokémon.
* Pay Attention to the Beeping: As your chain gets longer, the PokéRadar will beep faster.
* Chain-Specific Pokémon: Some Pokémon are only available through specific chains, so it's important to know what you're looking for.
* Use the "PokeRadar Guide" in the Game: The game provides a guide on how to use the PokéRadar and offers information on chain-specific Pokémon.
7. Patience is Key
Finding shiny Pokémon with the PokéRadar takes patience. It can be a slow process, but the rewards are well worth it!
