A bergamasque is:

1) A person from the city of Bergamo, Italy, or the surrounding province of Bergamo. Historically in French and English usage, the name of the city was rendered simply as "Bergame" and the person therefore termed a "Bergamese".

2) A breed of dog, the bergamasco.

3) A name for the Northern Italian dialect used in the area around Bergamo.

4) A dish originating from Bergamo, such as polenta taragna.

5) A piece of music inspired by the city or the surrounding region, such as the Bergamasca Suite by Nino Rota.

6) In art history, a bergamasque is an artist from Bergamo or the area around it, such as Giovanni Cariani.
