Where is tap dancing performed?

Tap dancing is performed on a variety of surfaces, but the most common is a wooden stage or floor. This provides the necessary resonance for the taps to create their distinctive sound. Some tap dancers also perform on metal or concrete surfaces, which produce a different sound and require a different technique.

Other surfaces sometimes used are fiberglass and marble as they too create different auditory sensations while tap dancing.
