Who is taphness?

Taphness is a measure of how easily a mineral can be scratched. It is determined by using the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, which ranks minerals from 1 to 10 based on their ability to scratch other minerals. Talc is the softest mineral and has a Mohs hardness of 1, while diamond is the hardest mineral and has a Mohs hardness of 10. Most gemstones have a Mohs hardness of 7 or above.

Here is a table of some common minerals and their Mohs hardness:

* Talc - 1

* Gypsum - 2

* Calcite - 3

* Fluorite - 4

* Apatite - 5

* Feldspar - 6

* Quartz - 7

* Topaz - 8

* Corundum - 9

* Diamond - 10

The Mohs scale of mineral hardness can be used to identify minerals by comparing their scratch resistance to known minerals. For example, if a mineral can scratch calcite but not fluorite, it has a Mohs hardness of 4.
