Begin standing with your feet near each other, facing your partner. Hold your partner's right hand in your left, and place your right hand on your partner's left shoulder blade. Step back with your left foot and, while keeping your right foot diagonally turned toward your partner, turn your torso so that your position and that of your partner's creates a "v." Your right shoulder and your partner's left shoulder will form the point of the "v," while your left shoulder and your partner's right shoulder will form the legs of the "v." Hold your clasped hands hands up and away from you both. This is called the Fallback Position. Move your right foot back so that your position is far closer to a waltz hold, while your left shoulder and your partner's right shoulder are still angled away from each other and your face turned to the left. This is called the Promenade Position. Kick your left foot forward, keeping it to the outside or left of her right foot. Bring your left foot beside your right and kick your right foot forward so it goes between your partner's legs. Bring your right foot back and place it beside your left and stand facing your partner.
