Jitterbug Dancing Instructions

The Jitterbug is a type of swing dancing that became popular in 1940s America and is characterized by a six-count dance step that is performed at a fast pace. Even though the Jitterbug is over 70 years old, it still remains a popular type of dance among enthusiasts. The good news is that you don't need to be a professional dancer to enjoy this dance form.       Face your partner and join both hands together.

      Step to the side for two counts of the music. The man moves to the left for these two counts while the woman moves to the right.

      Step to the opposite side for two counts of the music (guy steps to right while girl steps to left).

      Bring one foot back behind the heel of the opposite foot (the man brings his left foot back while the woman brings her right foot back) and transfer your body weight from the back foot to the front foot.

      Repeat these steps in time with the music.
