How to Teach Country & Western Dancing

Country western dancing is a social endeavor, as it involves either a partner or a group of fellow dancers. A lot of social interaction within this dance genre occurs during the learning process, as people teach each other new steps or routines. Thus, becoming a country western dance instructor is one way of expanding your social experience within the country dance community. Teaching country western dance requires a certain level of skill and an extensive knowledge of the genre.

Instructions

    • 1

Take country western dance classes to gain the skills and needed to instruct others professionally. Do this in a private studio or in a higher-education setting. Begin with lessons that fit your skill level, and move up to more advanced classes as your dancing improves. Explain to your instructor that you wish to eventually teach country western dance yourself so that she knows how hard to challenge you throughout your training.

    • 2

Join the "National Teachers Association for Country-Western Dance" (NTA) and follow their procedure to become an accredited dance instructor. This involves attending workshops and passing tests conducted by the NTA officials in your state or zone.

    • 3

Apply to work as a country western dance instructor at a dance studio once you and your dance instructor feel you are ready to teach. Teach a beginning country western dance class at first, and move on to more advance teaching as you gain experience.

    • 4

Work as an independent country western dance instructor if you do not wish to join a studio. Book a venue where you can hold regular dance lessons, such as a country western bar, a community center, a gym or a school. Advertise your lessons in country western bars, online at dance websites, through social networking sites, in the local newspaper and through word of mouth.
