Coleslaw is a salad consisting primarily of finely shredded raw cabbage. Although shredded carrots are often added, other additions of ingredients and variations of dressings differ substantially by region within the Western world. It may be presented simply seasoned with salt and pepper, or with additions such as vinegar or mayonnaise or other salad dressings (e.g. thousand island dressings), and many other optional ingredients, often including carrots, onions or bell peppers for extra flavor and texture.
