What did they wear during the gavotte?

During the 17th century when the gavotte came about, dancers often wore elaborate courtly dress for formal balls. Women typically wore dresses characterized by fitted bodices that accentuated the waist but puffed into panniers in the hips while men would frequently wear knee-length suits.

These suits often had brocaded coats as overcoats and knee breeches. Both men and women often wore wigs adorned with lace and jewels while women used fans while dancing the gavotte and other social dances of the court.
