Where did the mandans live?
The Mandan people historically inhabited present-day North Dakota and South Dakota in the central United States. Their traditional territory was centered along the Missouri River and its tributaries, particularly in the vicinity of the Heart River in modern-day North Dakota. The Mandans were one of several tribes that formed the larger Siouan language family and shared cultural similarities. They were known for their distinctive earthlodge villages, advanced agricultural practices, and ceremonial traditions.
