How many people died while trying to break the sound barrier?

There have been no documented deaths directly attributed to attempting to break the sound barrier. While there have been numerous accidents and fatalities in the pursuit of supersonic flight, these incidents were not necessarily caused by the attempt to exceed the speed of sound.
