What is alitaptap dance?

The alitaptap dance, lit. "firefly", originated from the province of Batangas, Philippines. It gained popularity in 1996 as part of the "Lakas ng Tao", a Philippine tourism campaign.

The movements of the dance is inspired by the firefly's soft and gentle twinkling, fluttering and flying patterns, as well as its courtship rituals. The dance's choreography, costumes and props emphasize the unique characteristic of the firefly, particularly the glow-in-the-dark effect.
