Ekarupe Kamui Nomai (Dance of the Great Spirit) - Performed inside, it honors the village Kamui (spirits) and also expresses Ainu cosmology and the world of nature; it’s a sacred event that requires specific training; only males perform during the 12-part, 24-hour series of prayers and dances; a young boy may spend five years training with an elder who teaches the dances as well as the traditional Ainu language and culture.
