How to Learn Child Beauty Pageant Choreography

Child beauty pageants judge and assess your child's skills in beauty, poise, personality and grace. Children enrolled in such pageants must often master individual and group dance numbers to perform by themselves and with the competition. Because child pageants are luckily not dance competitions, the choreography is usually simple. However, as parents, it is important for you to learn the choreography as well, so that you can drill your child at home, make sure she has mastered the steps perfectly and assist her with any tricky moves.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand at least 6 feet behind the choreographer when he is introducing the dance routine. If you stand facing him and try to learn it, you will easily get confused. Standing behind the choreographer ensures that you will be using the correct feet and moving in the correct direction.

    • 2

Ask the choreographer to break down the choreography into small parts, such as counts of four. A good choreographer will do this anyway when presenting a number, but some go too fast. Breaking down choreography into manageable pieces makes it easier to remember the dance routine.

    • 3

Count out loud while you are learning the piece. This will ensure that you stay with the music and perform the right steps with the right counts.

    • 4

Repeat the piece in its entirety by yourself at least five times to ensure that you have fully memorized the routine and that you can can correctly teach it to your child or drill her.
