Study the styles and techniques of belly dancing that the schools specialize in. Select a school that falls in line with the belly dancing style or technique you are interested in.
Research the certification program requirements through the dance school. Find out what the prerequisites for the program are. For instance, some schools may require you to already be a highly trained belly dancer, while other certification programs accept students who are just starting out with basic belly dancing instruction. Other program requirements to consider include the program fees.
Go through the certification program. Some programs will be offered through live courses that you attend, like going to school. Other programs send you DVD materials that you study and practice on your own at home. Certification programs for belly dancing have various levels that you must complete, which advance in terms of difficulty. Level I certification program or course is the easiest; some programs go up to four levels.
Test for your belly dancing certification. The instructor of the certification program will require you to give a performance, which she will score based on your technique, knowledge and fluency of choreography. If you pass the performance test, you receive your certification. If not, you may have another opportunity to try again after more study.
