How to Build a Dancer's Stage
Like any performance art, dance is a skill learned with practice. To build confidence before performing a dance routine in front of a crowd, it is helpful to spend time practicing at home. Use a homemade stage to simulate the feel of a real stage and protect the knees and feet from getting injured. A simple dance stage need only consist of a sheet of plywood laid over wooden pallets, but you can go a step further and add a curtain to really get you in the performance zone.
- 2 wooden pallets
- Screwdriver
- Wood screws
- 1 4 by 8 foot sheet of plywood
- 4 cinder blocks
- 4 2 by 2 by 72 inch wood posts
- 2 2 by 2 by 48 inch wood posts
- 1 2 by 2 by 96 inch wood post
- Shower curtain rod and set of rings
- 4 shower curtains

Lay two wooden pallets on the floor. Place your sheet of plywood on top of the wooden pallets. Screw the plywood to the pallets.

Lift each corner of the stage and slide a cinder block under it so the stage sits on the cinder blocks.

Screw the four 72 by 2 by 2 inch wood posts in the corners of the stage, forming vertical posts.

Connect the vertical posts on the shorter side by nailing the two 48 by 2 by 2 inch wood posts between them at the top.

Screw the 96 by 2 by 2 inch wood post between the back posts at the top.

Screw the shower curtain rod between the two front posts at the top. Staple three shower curtains at the top of the posts, wrapping them around the back and sides of the stage. Drape the fourth curtain along the curtain rod in the front using the curtain rings.
