What is chance dance?

Chance dance is a postmodern technique which involves choreographing movement and then performing the routine to a previously-existing musical piece that the dancers must improvise to in some way.

While most of postmodern dancing involves improvisation at one point or another, this method focuses heavily on it because its primary goal is to produce unique routines through collaboration. Some people believe that all improvisational dancing should be classified as "chance dance".
