How to Get Ballerina Slipper Ties to Stay Up

When a ballerina slipper comes undone in a performance, it can be nerve-wracking for the ballerina and distracting to the audience. A common misconception is that ballerina shoe ribbons are wrapped around the calf of the leg, but they are actually wrapped around the ankle, providing support for the foot. You can perfect the art of keeping the ties of your ballerina shoes up with a few simple tips.

Instructions

  1. Tying the Ballerina Ribbons

    • 1

Wrap your slipper ribbons around your ankle firmly but not so tight as to cause discomfort. Tie them around your ankle front-to-back until you run out of ribbon.

    • 2

Tie a secure knot on the inside of your ankle and tuck the knot under your ribbon so that it doesn't show.

    • 3

Spray a little hairspray on the knot, and rub it in lightly with your finger.

    • 4

Secure the knot under the ribbons with a needle and thread, if you want to be sure that your ballerina slipper tie won't come undone. Thread the needle through the knot and ribbons several times from several angles.
