Did Giotto use lapis lazuli to get the color blue for Arena chapel ceiling?

Giotto did not use lapis lazuli for Arena chapel ceiling. Instead he used azurite, a deep blue mineral composed of copper carbonate, to create the blue color in his frescoes. While lapis lazuli was commonly used during that time for its vibrant blue pigment, it was much more expensive than azurite, and therefore less accessible.
