Instructions

    • 1

Prepare yourself for this time-consuming job, by making sure you have space in your garage to start painting your car. You'll want to keep the garage door open, but using a garage will keep the car safe while it is drying, rather than risking it outside where it may rain or storm. Next, prepare the car by taping off the areas where you want to avoid painting such as windshields and car windows.

    • 2

Sand the car down with different grades of sand paper. Grab 600, 1200 and 1500 grit sandpaper. Start by sanding down the entire car with 600 grit sandpaper. You may want to pick up a power sander to do this as it will save you some time. After sanding with 600 grit, proceed with 1200 and 1500 grit. When you are done, the car should be glossy and smooth all over.

    • 3

Spray the car with paint using a paint sprayer--not spray paint. A good paint sprayer will give the car an even coat of paint all over, rather than splotchy paint where some areas have thicker paint than others. Give the car two or three layers of paint.

    • 4

Wax the car after you have taken a few days to let the car's paint dry in a garage. Make sure to wax evenly, giving it a few coats. When the wax dries, your car should be good to go.
