What is meant by FOC option in Anna University counseling?

The FOC option in Anna University counselling stands for Full-Time Open Category. It is a category under which candidates who have completed their Class 12 or equivalent examination and have not availed any reservation benefit can apply for admission to various undergraduate programmes offered by Anna University and its affiliated colleges.

Candidates who apply under the FOC category will compete for seats based on their merit and performance in the entrance examination conducted by Anna University, known as the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA) exam. The TNEA exam is a state-level entrance exam conducted for admission to various engineering, architecture, and other professional courses in Tamil Nadu.

The FOC category is open to all candidates, irrespective of their caste, religion, or community. Candidates who are eligible to apply under the FOC category must meet the following criteria:

1. They must have passed the Class 12 or equivalent examination from a recognised board or university.

2. They must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in their Class 12 or equivalent examination (40% for reserved category candidates).

3. They must not have availed any reservation benefit for admission to any other undergraduate programme.

The FOC category is highly competitive, and candidates must secure high marks in the TNEA exam to secure a seat in their preferred programme.
