What is the theme of poem nightingale n glow worm?

The theme of the poem “Nightingale and Glow-worm” by William Cowper is the contrast between the two creatures and their respective lifestyles. The nightingale is described as a bird that sings from the evening till almost morning and its song enchants. On the other hand, the glow worm is described as a small, silent creature that gives faint light. Through this contrast, Cowper explores the themes of light and darkness, sound and silence, and activity and passivity. He also uses these two creatures to represent different human character types with the nightingale representing those who love to indulge in social activities but may not be deep and the glow worm representing those who silently create great change for society.
