Hey, Granny Appleby
I've got a few questions here for you
'N I sure 'nough could use some of your home spun wisdom
Now that I'm a grandma too
I've been raisin' my three grandboys like you did mama and my sisters
But things are so much different from when you and Paw used to do it
What made you such a good mama,
And how'd you find the time to do it?
Well Granny Appleby cleared her throat
And said it was no big mystery
To raise the best in children there's a little bitty
Secret recipe
Just a little bitty bit of lovin'
A whole lotta bit of common sense
A spoonful of laughter and heapin' big hugs
And a big ol' dose of good old plain horse sense
A little bitty pinch of discipline
And that's seasoned well with patience
And then you sprinkle in a few prayers every night
Before they lay their heads down in the pillows right
Hey Granny Appleby
I want you to know I'm gonna follow your recipe now
I hope that someday I'm as fine a grandma as you
It takes a heap o' love, I know it do
And as she reached out to hug her grandma,
Granny started softly hummin' a tune
'Bout the way children always grow up way too soon
Then in a flash of lightnin' Granny just disappeared
And Grandma knew that she'd just gotten a heavenly visit
That she would never ever forget
Yes from Granny Appleby
Grandma learned how to be the best grandmama
And so the circle will continue to spin 'round
And 'round again
