What test of faith does hale ask proctor to perform in The Crucible by Arthur Miller?
In Arthur Miller's play "The Crucible," Hale does not ask Proctor to perform any test of faith. However, there is a scene where Reverend Hale asks Abigail Williams to perform a test to prove that she is not lying about the accusations she has made against innocent people. Hale has Abigail touch a poppet that is supposed to represent Tituba, the slave woman whom Abigail has accused of witchcraft. If Abigail is truly being truthful, then she will be able to make the poppet move. However, Abigail fails the test when she is unable to make the poppet move, further raising doubts about the veracity of her accusations.
