What has the author John B Beckett written?

John B. Beckett (born July 13, 1953) is an American author and historian who has written extensively on the history of North Carolina and the Appalachian region. He is a professor of history at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.

Beckett has written or edited over 25 books, including:

* Tar Heels: A History of North Carolina (2018)

* Appalachia: An American History (2013)

* The Triumph of Politics: How the Rural Poor Were Abandoned in America (2005)

* Garfield's Ghost: The Politics of Scandal in the Gilded Age (2001)

* The Negro in the Making of North Carolina (1995)

Beckett's work has been widely praised by historians and scholars. He has been awarded the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association's Roanoke Chowan Award for Historical Literature, the Appalachian Studies Association's Cratis Williams Award, and the Southern Historical Association's James C. Bonner Prize.

In addition to his books, Beckett has published numerous articles and essays in journals and magazines. He has also appeared on television and radio programs to discuss his work. He is currently working on a biography of North Carolina governor Terry Sanford.
