What were girls educated in during shakespeares time?

In Shakespeare's time, the education of girls was largely neglected. Most girls from wealthy families received some basic education at home, which might include reading, writing, and arithmetic. They might also learn some music and dancing. However, formal education for girls was rare, and most girls were not expected to pursue any kind of intellectual career.

The education of girls from poorer families was even more limited. Many girls from these families did not receive any formal education at all, and instead learned only the skills necessary for their future roles as wives and mothers.

Overall, the education of girls in Shakespeare's time was severely limited compared to that of boys. It was not until the late 19th century that women began to gain access to the same quality of education as men.
