Walter L. Ferris (born 1941) is a retired United States Air Force colonel and a prolific science fiction writer. He has written over 100 novels, as well as short stories and articles. His works have been translated into more than 20 languages.

Some of his best-known works include:

* The Hive: This novel is a thriller set in a world where a hive mind controls the government and the people. It was nominated for the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 2000.

* The Annihilation Factor: This novel is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a nanobot virus has killed off most of the human population. It was nominated for the Nebula Award for Best Novel in 2002.

* Orbital Decay: This novel is a military science fiction novel set in the near future. It was nominated for the Prometheus Award for Best Novel in 2010.
