What is an epiphany for The Crucible by Arthur Miller?

An epiphany is a life-changing realization. In the play, John Proctor experiences an epiphany when he tears up his confession. He realizes that confessing to witchcraft would be a lie and that he cannot live a lie. He also realizes that the court is corrupt and that he must stand up for what is right.
