Why did john agard write windrush child?
John Agard wrote the poem "Windrush Child" to tell the story of people arriving to England on the ship named Empire Windrush, on June 21, 1948 to help rebuild its economy which has suffered tremendously because of World War II. This event marks as well, the beginning of immigration of West Indians.
He wrote this poem based on his own story as being one of them who joined in this significant day on English history.
