Percy is quickly rescued by his friend, Grover, a satyr who reveals the truth about Percy's life: he is a demigod, the son of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. Grover is tasked with protecting Percy, and they embark on a dangerous journey to escape the Furies who are hunting him. Along the way, they face numerous obstacles, including a Minotaur attack in the middle of Manhattan, which forces Percy to discover his true abilities and realize the extent of his powers.
The chapter ends with Percy, Grover, and Annabeth, a daughter of Athena, arriving at Camp Half-Blood, a sanctuary for demigods, where Percy finally feels like he belongs.
