How did the captors of Marie Antoinette treat her?
The captors of Marie Antoinette treated her poorly and with disrespect. After the storming of the Tuileries Palace on August 10, 1792, she was imprisoned in the Temple with her husband, Louis XVI, and their children. While there, she was subjected to many indignities and hardships. Her jailers took away her royal titles and privileges, and forced her to share a small, uncomfortable cell with her family. They were under surveillance twenty-four hours a day, and the captors tried to break their spirits by denying them basic necessities such as food and privacy.
