- Arrested along with Marie Antoinette on August 10, 1792, during the storming of the Tuileries Palace.
- Imprisoned in the Temple Prison with his family.
- Tried by the National Convention, a newly elected legislative body dominated by radical revolutionaries, from December 11-26, 1792.
- Found guilty of "conspiracy against the liberty of the Nation and the general safety of the state."
- Executed by guillotine on January 21, 1793, in the Place de la Révolution (formerly Place Louis XV).
Marie Antoinette:
- Imprisoned along with Louis XVI and their family in the Temple Prison on August 10, 1792.
- Separated from her family on October 1, 1793, and transferred to the Conciergerie, another prison in Paris.
- Tried by the Revolutionary Tribunal and convicted of treason on October 16, 1793.
- Executed by guillotine on October 16, 1793, in the Place de la Révolution.
