What is the origin of word savagery?

The word "savagery" comes from the Old French word "salvagerie," which means "wildness" or "uncivilized behavior." It was first used in English in the 14th century to describe the behavior of wild animals. In the 16th century, it began to be used more broadly to describe the behavior of people who were considered to be uncivilized or barbaric. Today, the word "savagery" is used to describe extreme cruelty or violence.
