Did Christine end up with the Phantom in book?

In the 1910 novel The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux, Christine does not end up with the Phantom though there are hints of a romantic attraction. At the end of the book, Christine marries Raoul, her childhood friend, and the Phantom goes into hiding, never to be seen again.
