What is the evil dead about?

The Evil Dead is a 1981 American supernatural horror film written and directed by Sam Raimi, and starring Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandweiss, Richard DeManincor, and Betsy Baker. The film tells the story of a group of college students who accidentally unleash a demonic entity while vacationing in a remote cabin in the woods.

The film begins with five friends - Ash (Campbell), Linda (Sandweiss), Cheryl (DeManincor), Scott (Hal Delrich), and Shelly (Baker) - arriving at a remote cabin in the woods for a vacation. The group finds a strange book in the cabin, the Necronomicon Ex Mortis, and Ash reads aloud from it, unwittingly releasing a demonic entity. The demon possesses Cheryl and begins to terrorize the group.

Ash and the others try to fight off the demon, but it proves too powerful. Cheryl is eventually killed, and Scott and Shelly are driven insane. Ash is the only one left to fight the demon, and he eventually defeats it by using a chainsaw to cut off its arm.

The Evil Dead is a low-budget horror film that has become a cult classic. The film is notable for its graphic violence, gore, and black humor. It is also considered one of the most influential horror films of the 1980s, and it has spawned two sequels, Evil Dead II (1987) and Army of Darkness (1992).
