Was GI Jane based on a true story?

The film G.I. Jane (1997) is loosely based on the story of United States Navy officer and physician, Linda Bray and the 1993 United States Navy Tailhook scandal involving sexual harassment at a Las Vegas hotel during a Tailhook Association symposium.
