Daughters of the Moon Summary

Lynne Ewing, in her series "Daughters of the Moon," describes the adventures of several exceptional teen girls living in Los Angeles as they wield magical powers, battle absolute evil and navigate their dating lives. There are 13 books in the series, each of which focuses on one of the magical girls in turn; the story arc for the five teens culminates in the final novel. The gifted friends battle the Atrox, a force of evil and destruction, and its many Dark Followers, while growing into their mature selves.
  1. Vanessa Cleveland, Invisible Goddess

    • Vanessa Cleveland lives with her mother; her father is deceased. The cautious and intelligent girl can "expand her molecules" and disappear from sight. This power is reinforced by the moon amulet that she wears, along with the other Daughters of the Moon. Vanessa dates a number of boys in the series, including a moon demon and Michael Saratoga, the cutest guy in her school. She and her best friend Catty Turner, along with the other girls, fight the Atrox all the way to the final book.

    Catty Turner, Time Jumper

    • Catty Turner is Vanessa Cleveland's best friend with the remarkable power to travel through time. Her mother abandoned her when she was young, driving Catty to search for her. Catty is a bold girl who loves jumping through time, even if consequences follow. She learns early on that her destiny is interwoven with the Atrox and that she will be play an important role in the final battle.

    Serena Killingsworth, Mind Reader

    • Serena has the power to read thoughts and otherwise confuse or manipulate the minds of those around her. With her best friend, Jimena, Serena is involved throughout the series with the brooding and dark romantic interest, Stanton, a centuries-old, powerful individual who may have ties to the Atrox. Serena has piercings and lives with her brother in Los Angeles.

    Jimena Castillo, Psychic from the Streets

    • Jimena is as tough as nails, and in fact was a member of a street gang in the Los Angeles area when she was younger. She has tattoos and a no-nonsense attitude. She encounters an old boyfriend she thought was dead, tries to reconcile herself with her past and sees visions of the future. Her power proves important for the Daughters as they fight the evil Atrox.

    Tianna Moore, Dimensional Walker

    • Tianna Moore, who only appears as a main character later in the series, can move objects with her mind and can actually jump between dimensions. This mysterious girl, who has confused memories about her early life, assists the girls when they need her most. She also seems to be linked to the Atrox; she discovers her family was targeted by the Dark Followers of the Atrox when she was young. Tianna plays an important part in the exciting conclusion of Ewing's series.
