What did the narrator in Night spend his childhood?

In the book "Night," by Elie Wiesel, the narrator, Eliezer, spends his childhood in the small town of Sighet, in Transylvania, which was at the time part of Hungary. Eliezer grew up in a close-knit Jewish community, surrounded by family and friends. He received a traditional Jewish education and felt a strong connection to his culture and religion.
